Did you know . . . ?

In 1920 the US alone consumed approximately 437,579,000 barrels of oil in the category of transportation. That amount would be equal to an oil reserve tank 1,000 ft in diameter and 3,128 ft. high.

The Execs and Reps are updated

Meeting with ICBC

On 31-AUG-09, SVABC met with ICBC representitives Kellee Irwin, Scott Logue and Mark Francis. From the SVABC, were Harold Wellenbrink, Riccardo Sestito and Keith Jackman.

For a complete run down of the meeting, you will find it through the menu to the left under "NEWS" and "News Letters"

Meeting with ICBC

On March 20, myself and 2 members of the SVABC, met with the new president of ICBC, Jon Schubert, and Kellee Irwin, V.P. in charge of underwriting. The purpose of the meeting was to provide the president with a history of the SVABC and to discuss items related to the future of the Vintage and Collector vehicle hobby. The items the SVA put forward were received in a positive manner, however, we agreed that we would not release any details until ICBC has time to review them.

Specialty Vehicle Association of B.C.

We at the SVABC are once again asking all Vintage and Collector car hobbyists to please join the Association in 2009. The SVABC was formed some 30 years ago to protect and expand the Vintage plated vehicles to the Collector plate status which allowed you more freedom and flexibility when driving your old cars.

We represent more than 50 clubs and hundreds of members in British Columbia in our meetings with ICBC and Motor Vehicles to keep your vehicle on the road. With Air Care behind us for now, we will be under increasing pressure in the future to control emissions now that greening the country is the new environmental concern. We have been successful in the last two years to get the Modified Collector plate expanded from 1949 to 1958. We also worked with ICBC to arrive at a consensus on items for Vintage Accessories and also Safety upgrades.

We will continue to work with ICBC and the different Government agencies to keep what we already have and to possibly expand the Collector plate program.

We request your support with your membership. The $10.00 you spend on joining the SVABC will go a long way in our continuing negotiations with the above.

Thank you from the SVABC

What is wrong with this picture ?
just wrong

Unfortunately, there is nothing wrong with this picture, provided the vehicle is not insured with an agreed value policy. Only vehicles with an agreed value policy are required to keep the insured vehicle in a protected, locked and secure garage.

If on the other hand, any "B" plated vehicle's condition has fallen below the required criteria for a collector plateĀ and it has an active decal on the plate, advise ICBC at your earliest possible convenience.

Some almost correct responses to date:
  1. Is the car too new for the collector plates ?
  2. It is not in a secure parking area partly under cover
  3. This is not secure storage and appears not to be on owners property
  4. Why is a car with a collector plate out in the snow ?
  5. The vehicle in the photo is not being maintained/looked after according to the rules for Collector plates.
  6. Is it a special type of Collector plate ?
  7. How can a collector plated car be allowed to be exposed to the weather like in the picture ?

Any other guesses as to what is wrong with the above picture? One of the above is very close, another one is on the right track.

Answer will be given on 01-AUG-09.
