Did you know . . . ?

In 1920 the US alone consumed approximately 437,579,000 barrels of oil in the category of transportation. That amount would be equal to an oil reserve tank 1,000 ft in diameter and 3,128 ft. high.

  Message from YOUR new President

It is a great honor and privilege to have been elected to serve as the new Specialty Vehicle Association of BC President.

As we move forward in 2011, we hope to build on the great foundation that was established over 30 years ago.

I would like to thank Riccardo Sestito and all of the past presidents for their hard work and dedication to the hobby.

Those attending the AGM in March nominated a dedicated group of Executive officers who have all graciously accepted their positions and will continue to demonstarte an outstanding dedication to making our association work, ultimately benefiting the owners of anything with wheels, tires and even tracks. Whether it is it propelled by an internal combustion engine, steam or electricity we are here to support the owners of such vehicles.

As an all volunteer organization I would like to take this opportunity to ask our new and existing members to get involved.

At a recent meeting with ICBC, in late 2010, we were given an indication that there might be an opportunity to make some more changes to Division 22 of the Insurance Motor Vehicle Act which is the legislation governing the Collector Vehicle program. At the same time the Vintage vehicle plate legislation could be reviewed and if applicable recommendations could be submitted.

ICBC have indicated that they would like the SVABC to survey the membership and stakeholders in the entire Province of BC for their input to any required change or expansion, which is a very democratic approach.  Moving forward, this will be the main focus for 2011.

Nigel Matthews, SVABC President, 2011

News from ICBC

Subject: Modified A Modified B Vehicles

I am very pleased to announce that your SVABC Resolution Team has after a lengthy period of discussion with ICBC, on the subject of registration “Make” description of modified or modified collector vehicles, that an agreement and implementation date has been reached. Effective January 1, 2011 Vehicles that show on the registration form as Modified A or Modified B are to be changed to reflect the original manufacturer at no cost to you the owner.
Example:     MAKE: FORD        MODEL: MODIF

This will correct the problem that you, the members submitted for resolution; if you are stopped by police (usually out of province) and they question the authenticity of the vehicle registration, that is whether or not the registration is for your vehicle and a lot of time is wasted matching vin numbers.

You will be receiving a letter in the mail; take it along with the vehicle registration to your favourite Auto Plan Agent and they will make the correction at no cost to you.
If you wish to take care of it before receiving the letter may do so anytime after 01-JAN-11

SVABC President

Specialty Vehicle Association of B.C.

We at the SVABC are once again asking all Vintage and Collector car hobbyists to please join the Association in 2011. The SVABC was formed some 30 years ago to protect and expand the Vintage plated vehicles to the Collector plate status which allowed you more freedom and flexibility when driving your old cars.

We represent more than 50 clubs and hundreds of members in British Columbia in our meetings with ICBC and Motor Vehicles to keep your vehicle on the road. With Air Care behind us for now, we will be under increasing pressure in the future to control emissions now that greening the country is the new environmental concern. We have been successful in the last two years to get the Modified Collector plate expanded from 1949 to 1958. We also worked with ICBC to arrive at a consensus on items for Vintage Accessories and also Safety upgrades.

We will continue to work with ICBC and the different Government agencies to keep what we already have and to possibly expand the Collector plate program.

We request your support with your membership. The $5.00 you spend on joining the SVABC will go a long way in our continuing negotiations with the above.

Thank you from the SVABC

just wrong

Unfortunately, there is nothing wrong with this picture, provided the vehicle is not insured with an agreed value policy. Only vehicles with an agreed value policy are required to keep the insured vehicle in a protected, locked and secure garage.

If on the other hand, any "B" plated vehicle's condition has fallen below the required criteria for a collector plate and it has an active decal on the plate, advise ICBC at your earliest possible convenience.
