Did you know . . . ?

To qualify for the "Scrap-it Program", the vehicle to be scrapped must be a 1993 or older model, have been insured for the past year, and be driven to the collection point under its own power.

It is expected the program will scrap between 10,000-20,000 older vehicles over the next three years.

Mission Statement:
The SVABC is a non-profit association representing specialty motor enthusiasts by dealing with all levels of government that may affect our hobby.

The SVABC was formed by a small group of car enthusiasts in the late 70’s, to pursue a common goal. The mandate was and continues to be, to provide a focal point for all motorsport interests in dealing with government matters that influence the hobby.

SVABC has been instrumental in working with ICBC and the government in attaining the “Collector Plate” and the “Modified Plate”. SVABC continues working with ICBC to create the next stage of the collector plate programs.

SVABC meets and corresponds with various agencies, government departments, local politicians, Ministers, etc. and deals with any and all issues that may impact and effect the hobby on an ongoing basis. We also communicate with other similar (specialty vehicle) organizations and associations on a regional, national and international level. This is the administration aspect of the association. SVABC is operated 100% by volunteers, dedicated to the continued enjoyment of the hobby of vehicle restoration, modification, preservation and the collection of automobilia. Members benefit by having a common voice dealing with all issues that effect your hobby. Information exchanged is usable by all. Without a unified and financed organization YOUR hobby could become extinct!!!

As we continue in our united goal of preservation of the hobby we must stay informed and up to date. A large membership base shows the support SVABC needs when dealing with government. Please take the time to become a member by completing the attached membership application. It may be the best $10 you spend. Please join now – every single member counts.

Specialty Vehicle Association of B.C.

We at the SVABC are once again asking all Vintage and Collector car hobbyists to please join the Association in 2009. The SVABC was formed some 30 years ago to protect and expand the Vintage plated vehicles to the Collector plate status which allowed you more freedom and flexibility when driving your old cars.

We represent more than 50 clubs and hundreds of members in British Columbia in our meetings with ICBC and Motor Vehicles to keep your vehicle on the road. With Air Care behind us for now, we will be under increasing presssure in the future to control emissions now that greening the country is the new environmental concern.

We have been successful in the last two years to get the Modified Collector plate expanded from 1949 to 1958. We also worked with ICBC to arrive at a concensus on items for Vintage Accessories and also Safety upgrades.

We will continue to work with ICBC and the different Government agencies to keep what we already have and to possibly expand the Collector plate program. We request your support with your membership. The $10.00 you spend on joining the SVABC will go a long way in our continuing negotiations with the above.

Thank you from the SVABC
